Biography

Hi there! My name is Josh.

I am many things: a classical musician, a physicist, a TTRPG fanatic, an avid fan of racquet sports. But first and foremost, I am an aspiring storyteller and a lover of fiction, and it is my goal in life to create immersive narrative experiences that tell captivating stories in new and unique ways.

I graduated magna cum laude, with highest distinction, from the University of Rochester with bachelor’s degree in physics, which I studied alongside music and digital media. My first serious introduction to the video game space was through an academic lens, and though I had played and loved video games my entire life, it wasn’t until I was engaging in games scholarship that I realized I could unite my love of games with my passion for storytelling. Ever since, I’ve taken creative writing classes and worked on game projects at both the University and the Rochester Institute of Technology, all while maintaining my involvement in games scholarship. My next steps take me to the University of Exeter, where I will be studying for a Master’s Degree in Interactive Storytelling Design.

In my musical life, I studied viola with DMA candidates at the Eastman School of Music, served as the Associate Conductor of the University of Rochester Orchestras, and played with the UR Symphony Orchestra, Penfield Symphony, Cordancia Chamber Orchestra, and in the Rochester-based Aquila Quartet. As a classical violist and conductor of 15+ years, I’ve fallen in love with the wordless stories and emotional journeys that only music can convey. Much of my written work originates with music, and in some cases, my work is directly inspired by a new piece I’ve been listening to!

In my increasingly non-existent spare time, I DM some fellow game designers and physics majors in a game of Dungeons & Dragons. I play pickleball and board games. I bike around Rochester, frequent many a coffee shop, and write as much short fiction as I can. And after all that is said and done, you can usually find me cracking into a Douglas Adams, Becky Chambers, or Octavia Butler novel.
